Litera: Summer 2006

Sun Jul 16, 2006, 2:09 PM

Welcome to Litera, version two of the *burn-p0etry newsletter. Older editions can be found on the website where Litera was previously based.

The newsletter has been moved to dA for easier access by BP members and other members of deviantART. We hope to encourage our fellow literature deviants to read and respond to these articles and hopefully gain some insight into the world of literature.

All articles are written by our Litera Newsletter Team unless otherwise stated. Please feel free to submit your own articles, suggestions, comments or queries by noting either =Litera or =the-beastie. We would love anyone and everyone to get involved in whatever way they like - be it book reviews, suggesting writers or literary websites for the spotlight section, writing up a poetic form, or any other kind of article they may choose.

Thank you for reading, we hope you enjoy.

Writers-Circle.com - an online community of prose writers. This is an active website with forums for discussion and chat as well as book reviews and other resources.

:bulletgreen: Writer
Lewis Carroll - or, to call him by his full title, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson was not only an acclaimed British writer of children's novels and poetry but also a photographer, mathematician, logician and Anglican clergyman. His works include Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, the nonsense poem Jabberwocky and the dialogue What the Tortoise Said to Achilles.

:bulletgreen: Novel
The Other Boleyn Girl, by Philippa Gregory - a dramatic and lively story of history, royalty, adultery and love. This novel focuses on the sister of Anne Boleyn, Mary - a mistress of Henry VIII long before he married his second wife. Loosely based on historical fact, The Other Boleyn Girl provides an enjoyable read for anyone interested in historical fiction, Tudor England or simply a tale of love triangles and a quest for power.

:bulletgreen: Poetry collection
Ariel, by Sylvia Plath - published two years after her death in 1963, this collection includes some of Plath's best known poems such as Lady Lazarus and Fever 103. The poems in Ariel were all written between 1960 and 1963. A must-read for all fans of contemporary literature.
